Illuminating Our Cognitive Bias
A look into the patterns shaping our current collective response
My Substack feed is fully saturated with posts weighing in on the atrocities happening in Minneapolis, on increasing ICE raids, and on the United States’ fall into whatever the hell it is we’re falling into. And while I’ve felt the pull to write something to acknowledge what’s happening, I’ve stopped myself. I’m not a political analyst, and I don’t think simply calling out the fascist actions of our federal government will do any good—my personal internet echo chamber is already soaked with this rage.
Whenever writing something political, I feel hyperaware of being crystal clear in my personal intentions. I think about 2020 and #BlackoutTuesday, where everyone posted black squares in the ultimate manifestation of performative activism. Do I truly have something to add to the existing milieu?
